Mexico is Cancun and something else: Bacalar

While organizing your vacations in Mexico, you will find many options to explore such as CancunPlaya del CarmenTulum, and Holbox amongst others. These are spectacular places and definitely amazing holiday spots. But right on the other side of the State of Quintana Roo lays a small and magical town called Bacalar.

Bacalar Seven Color Lagoon
This is an incredible place to just disconnect and see something that is unique both in Mexico and the world: the Seven Color Lagoon. Needless to say, the name comes from the amazing tones that made this lake famous. The white sandy bottom gives visitors the impression of being right in the middle of the Caribbean Sea with the difference that it is actually fresh water. Bacalar is perfect for a yoga retreat, a long weekend, some time to enjoy your own company or with your significant other. All you will want to do is relax, read a great book, enjoy the unique view, and take some time to yourself.

Mayan Explore recommends some kayaking around the lagoon, because it is the perfect way to enjoy some exercise. It will also give you the opportunity to further explore this incredible place and see the great nature around the area. Vacations in Mexico definitely acquire a new meaning in Bacalar, especially if you are used to places like Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

This sleepy and tranquil town features the San Felipe’s Fort, which is currently a museum. It was built to protect Bacalar from the numerous attacks by English, Dutch and French pirates. From this fascinating building, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Seven Color Lagoon as well as experience the calm feeling Bacalar offers even downtown. Another famous activity here is visiting the Cenote Azul (Blue Sinkhole), which is one of the largest ones in Mexico. Here you will be able to swim in another unique environment as well as enjoy some amazing Mexican dishes (mainly seafood and fish oriented).
